Allow me to be a bit melodramatic for a moment.

Normally, I am the queen of Rice Krispie Treats. Years upon years of being allergic to eggs and pretty much anything else that a normal kid would eat meant I wasn't allowed cakes, cookies, brownies or any sweets that a little toddler would love to have. I was the reason that a peanut free table existed. Yet, despite the shame of this life, I always had one companion and it was my Rice Krispies. Every birthday, these treats would be the replacement for cupcakes. Even when the allergies faded away -- and by faded I mean were slowly tortured out of my body -- the love of Rice Krispies remained. I never became entirely fond of the things that people would normally have for sweets, and instead clung onto my trauma bond with these sweet, crispy-but-chewy God-sends.

So, with all of this in mind, imagine my dismay when I make the most succulent batch of Rice Krispie Treats known to man, extra textured with holiday sprinkles on top, and I accidentally leave them out, uncovered. Not for an hour to let them cool, but instead for two whole days. How could I so willingly neglect the things that kept me sane through my sugar-crazed youth? And during Christmas? I felt nothing but guilt as I took a bite into the now crumbly brick of what was once food; I knew that it was my fault for their death and eventual trashing. To the Rice Krispies that I abandoned, I will right this wrong and I promise that I will reclaim my throne again.
